Al Ahli defeated Qatar SC 2-0 in Week 6 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Saturday.
Abel Mathias (63rd minute) and Abdulrahman Mustafa (90th minute) scored for Al Ahli as they moved to nine points. Qatar SC stood on three points.
It was Al Ahli’s third victory and that helped The Brigadiers put an end to a losing streak that stretched to two games.
Qatar SC’s new recruit Kayke Rodriguez saw his shot from the right narrowly go wide as early as the second minute of the game, but Al Ahli attacked more in the first half.
Abel tested Qatar SC goalkeeper Jassim Al Hail with a long-range shot in the 12th minute and Mohammed Diame trapped the ball from rival defenders before taking a shot, which was also blocked by Al Hail after the half-hour mark.
At the other end, Al Ahli goalkeeper Ivanildo Rodriguez stopped a rising shot from Qatar SC’s Uzbek striker Sardor Rashidov’s free-kick.
Abel hit a free-kick straight to Al Hail in the last minute of first half, but that was not strong enough to beat the goalkeeper.
Qatar SC thought they had taken the lead in the 53rd minute through Ali Awad, who put the ball home following a goalmouth melee after Ivanildo failed to properly connect a long lob. In the process, Ivanildo was fouled by Kayke and the goal was disallowed.
Ten minutes later, Al Ahli surged ahead with Abel connecting a defence-splitting through pass from the middle by Mohammed Abbasi.
The second goal came as the regular time came to a close. Abdulrahman was on hand to tap home a cross from the left by Abdullah Al Ahrak.
