Al Shamal welcomed last season’s Qatar Stars League champions Lekhwiya, the home side was keen to make a mends after last week’s trouncing by Al Arabi (4-0). The match kicked off at 18:00 in the evening on Friday the 26th of September.
Lekhwiya meanwhile had amassed a record of 4 straight wins, with no losses and no goals conceded.
In the first half Al Shamal looked to be holding their own until the 37th minute when the referee gave a questionable decision in the box in favour of Lekhwiya. Sebastian Soria was deemed to have been brought down by defender Marconi Amaral but the decision was harsh against the defender as the replay showed little to no contact.
Regardless, Sebastian Soria took no time at all to put his side into the lead, smashing the penalty into the top left corner and sending Chihab Salh Eddine the wrong way.
In the second half Shamal pressed for the equalizer but to no avail, in fact this game didn’t look as if it had any more goals in it. Yet on the 3rd minute of stoppage time Yousuf Msakni received the ball on the edge of the box and went round two defenders before letting rip for the second.
Al Shamal showed plenty of discipline but yet again they failed to take their chances when they came.
Lekhwiya now move clear of the chasing pack with a two point advantage in first place and Shamal slide down into the relegation zone for the first time this season.
