Al Ahli is the oldest club in Qatar. It was founded in 1950 under the name of Al Najah. However, this was changed a few years later to Al Ahli to represent the geographic area of the club.
The side is nicknamed The Brigadiers, a nod to their status and prestige as the oldest club in Qatar. The team has a rich heritage and history as well as a strong fan base.
In the 1984-85 season, the club got its new headquarters, the first club to receive modern facilities, in recognition of its status as the country’s first club.

Distinguished Qatari coach Younes Ali took over Al Ahli during the 2025-2026 season, succeeding Igor Biscan.
He coached Al Arabi during the 2021-2022 season and led them to Amir Cup triumph in 2022-2023 season in addition to winning with them in Qatar-UAE Super Cup in 2023-2024 season.
He received the Best Coach award for 2022-2023 season from the Qatar Football Association.
He had a successful coaching stint with Qatar SC and also coached Al Markhiya in the Second Division as well as Al Rayyan in 2024-2025 season.
Younes is a former star of Qatar national team and played for several clubs, including Al Rayyan and Al Ahli.
