Al Rayyan were established in 1967 after the merging of old Al Rayyan and Al Nusoor sports clubs. The Lions, as they are nicknamed, have enjoyed a trophy-laden past and have won the league championship eight times.
Al Rayyan last lifted the league shield in the 2015-16 season, which was their first title in 21 years.
Al Rayyan have a large and passionate fan base, and are a regular presence in all tournaments. They have a special place in Qatar football and contributed a huge number of players to various national teams.

Date of Birth:28/10/1974
Spanish coach Vicente Moreno took over Al Rayyan in the 2025-2026 season, succeeding Portuguese Artur Jorge. His contract runs until 2028, as announced by the club, following a stint with Al Wakrah since the beginning of season.
Moreno has a distinguished coaching career, having coached several prominent clubs including Osasuna and gained experience in the Gulf region, having trained Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia. He has also coached Real Mallorca, Gimnastic and Xerez in Spain.
Moreno began his coaching career with the youth teams of Valencia in July, 1995, and later moved to Guadix, Xerez and Real Mallorca.
