The new QNB Stars League season will be full of challenges, excitement and strong competition among the participating clubs as they seek to achieve their goals and fulfil their ambitions.
All teams had geared up for the new season with pre-season camps and new player recruitments.
New stars
A large number of new foreign professional players joined the league championship in the 2019-2020 season, most notably Algerian Yacine Brahimi of Al Rayyan, Iceland’s Aron Gunnarsson of Al Arabi, Senegalese Mohamed Diamy of Al Ahli, Algerian Adlane Guedioura of Al Gharafa among others.
Other main attractions are South Korean Nam Tae-Hee, who moved to Al Sadd, Dutchman Nigel de Jong, who moved to Al Shahania, and Algerian Nadir Belhadj of Al Sailiya. Most notable local professional players are Almoez Ali of Al Duhail, the best player and top scorer of the 2019 Asian Cup, Akram Afif, who excelled for Al Sadd in the 2018-2019 season, Hassan Al Haydous, Boualem Khoukhi, Tarek Salman (all Al Sadd) and Abdelaziz Hatem, who moved to Al Rayyan.
Strong competition between coaches
Competition will also be intense among the new coaches, most notably Spanish star Xavi Hernandez, who took over Al Sadd after his retirement as a player, and others, including Diego Aguirre of Al Rayyan and Tunisian Sami Trabelsi of Al Sailiya.
