
The knockout stage of 2019 Workers’ Cup began at the Al Sadd Sports Club pitches on Friday, the 28th of December, with plenty of thrills on display during the Round of 16 games.
The seventh edition of Workers’ Cup, the annual football tournament organised by the Qatar Stars League and sponsored by Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, had started on 7th December.
The final is scheduled for 25th January, 2019.
Defending champions Nakheel Landscapes continued their good march with a convincing 5-0 win over Trags Engineering.
Nakheel’s quarterfinal opponents will be Spartan Ready Mix, who progressed after overcoming Delta Doha Corporation 3-2 in a close game. The teams were locked 1-1 at half-time.
Group B winners Medgulf Construction booked their spot in the quarterfinal with a thrilling 2-1 comeback win over Black Cat.
Medgulf will play Galfar Al Misnad in the last 8 after the latter blanked last year’s runners-up Doha Pest Control 3-0.
In a tightly-fought encounter, Taleb Group emerged as 1-0 winners over Power International to see themselves through to the quarterfinal.
Taleb are scheduled to face off with G4S, who advanced with a tie-breaker win over Mowasalat. The game ended 1-1 and went on to penalties, where G4S prevailed 4-1.
The final quarterfinal fixture will feature Shapoorji Pallonji and Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
Shapoorji eased their way through to the next round with a comfortable 3-0 win over Petroserv.
On the other hand, L&T had to come from behind to defeat Al Asmakh FM 3-1.
