The 2019-20 season QNB Stars League Week 2 was not devoid of thrill and excitement. A total of 16 goals were scored and one high-scoring match was played while two games were drawn. Fixtures were played over Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The technical level as well as fan presence was high, especially in Al Rayyan vs Al Gharafa and Al Duhail vs Al Arabi matches.

Reigning champions Al Sadd kept their position on top of the table with a 7-1 win over Al Shahania, with Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah leading the charge with three goals. Boualem Khoukhi, Abdelkarim Hassan and Hassan Al Haydous were the other scorers of The Wolves, who were also helped by an own goal by Al Shahania's Salih Al Yahri as he deflected in Bounedjah's goal-bound shot off a cross from Hassan Al Haydous.

Al Shahania’s goal was scored by Ali Ferydoon.

Al Sadd moved to six points and are the only side with an all-win record so far, whereas Al Shahania have yet to open their account and found themselves at the bottom of the table.

Al Sadd’s strong title rivals Al Duhail suffered a jolt as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a charged-up Al Arabi at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Yousef Msakni gave Al Duhail the lead, but Al Arabi drew parity through Aron Gunnarsson.

Al Duhail are fourth in the table with four points, on goal difference even though they have the same number of points (four) as third-placed Al Arabi.

Al Gharafa continued to occupy the second position after playing out an electrifying goalless draw with Al Rayyan.

Al Gharafa have four points, while Al Rayyan slipped from sixth to eighth with two points.

The high-stakes match was played at the Al Sadd Stadium on Friday.

Al Ahli compensated for their first-round loss to Al Arabi when they notched up a 3-0 win over Al Sailiya.

New recruit Abel Hernandez led the Al Ahli challenge with a double. Abdullah Al Ahrak was the other scorer.

Al Ahli moved to sixth from 10th position and Al Sailiya slipped from eighth to 10th.

Promoted Al Wakrah climbed from 11th to seventh place with three points following their impressive 2-0 victory against Qatar SC.

Al Wakrah were helped by an own goal by Qatar SC’s Alejandro Jimena before Ismail Mahmoud doubled their lead.

It was a morale-booster for Al Wakrah as they had lost big-time to Al Sadd in Week 1.

And Qatar SC find themselves in 11th spot, from ninth, and are one of the two sides yet to open their account, the other being Al Shahania.

Al Khor recorded a crucial 1-0 victory over Umm Salal in the week’s other encounter, Ahmed Hammoudan netting the all-important goal.

The victory enabled Al Khor to move up two places to fifth position, whereas Umm Salal fell to ninth from fifth spot.
