Al Wakrah and Al Khor played out a goalless draw in Week 8 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Wakrah Stadium on Thursday.
Al Wakrah now have eight points and Al Khor five. It was the second drawn result for both teams.
The teams tried hard to break the deadlock right throughout given the fact that they had dropped points in the recent rounds, but in vain.
The ball possession was also almost even. Al Wakrah, back in the top flight after playing two seasons in the Second Division, created more chances compared to their rivals, but failed to convert them to goals.
Captain Bruno Uvini held the Al Wakrah defence together, while Robert Alexander Melki was at the helm of Al Khor rear.
Al Khor also had goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater to thank for his saves.
In the first half, Al Wakrah’s young talent Mohammed Waad Al Bayati skied a long-range shot and their top scorer Mohamed Benyettou made attempts at the Al Khor goal, either side of half-time.
The Al Khor attacks revolved around Tiago Bezerra. The Brazilian tried to make inroads into the rival territory.
The script remained the same in the second session.
Al Khor’s Musab Abdulmajid sent a long lob straight to the Al Wakrah goalkeeper, while Wagner Ferreira had his shot thwarted by the Al Wakrah defence.
After Ousmane Coulibaly’s header off a corner was blocked by Al Khor goalkeeper Baba Djibril, it looked like Al Wakrah’s Khaled Muneer would break Al Khor hearts, but he sent his angular shot against the left upright at the stroke of final whistle.
