The 2019-20 season QNB Stars League’s Week 20 matches too were not devoid of excitement and high-voltage action. Three of the six games ended in draws, 11 goals were scored and, like in Week 19, not a single position changed in the standings.
Week 20 matches were played on 6th, 7th and 8th August, with two games on each day.
The battle between holders Al Sadd and leaders Al Duhail was the high point of the fixtures. Al Sadd had the last laugh as they won the contest 1-0, with new recruit Rodrigo Tabata scoring the all-important goal.
Al Sadd now have 41 points, five less than Al Duhail. However, the title race is more between The Red Knights and second-placed Al Rayyan (45 points) with only two rounds to be played.
Al Rayyan stayed in strong contention for the title by defeating Al Sailiya 1-0, Yacine Brahimi, one of the tournament top scorers, netting the winning goal.
Al Sailiya stood sixth with 25 points, the same as Al Arabi but behind on goal difference.
Al Arabi lost their match to Al Wakrah by a 1-2 margin and the latter moved on to 24 points.
Al Gharafa were the biggest gainers despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Al Khor as The Cheetahs ensured the fourth position with 32 points. Nearest challengers Al Arabi and Al Sailiya are both on 25 points, and are out of reckoning for a fourth-place finish.
Al Khor are 11th with 16 points.
Al Shahania are still at the bottom of the table with 15 points, but they extended their unbeaten run to three matches as they drew goalless with Qatar SC. Nabil Anwar’s wards had beaten Al Ahli 3-1 in Week 19 and drawn 2-2 with Al Sailiya in Week 19.
Qatar SC remained in ninth position with 19 points.
Umm Salal earned their third successive draw as they held Al Ahli 1-1. The Orange Fortress had drawn 1-1 with Al Duhail in Week 18 and 1-1 with Qatar SC in Week 19.
