Al Wakrah and Qatar SC shared points in a goalless draw in Week 17 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Al Arabi Stadium on Tuesday.

Qatar SC now have a tally of 28 points and Al Wakrah 15 points after 17 rounds of action.

In the fifth minute of the entertaining clash, Al Wakrah’s Abdennour Belhocini received a loopy cross from the wing. Belhocini, while trying to deflect the ball into the net from close range, miscalculated his jump and ended up nudging the ball above the crossbar with his knee.

Al Wakrah’s Omar Ali also got into the act in the eighth minute when he produced a snap-header that nearly kissed the Qatar SC crossbar with keeper Jassim Al Hail well-beaten.

Belhocini, who had missed an easy chance early on, once again misfired from close range with another header that sailed above the Qatar SC goal a few minutes later.

Close to the half-hour mark, Qatar SC’s Youcef Belaili managed to sneak into the Al Wakrah box, but his hurriedly-taken shot zipped past the goalpost to the left of keeper Saoud Al Khater. Soon, Anthony Okpotu even scored for Qatar SC, but the goal was ruled offside.

In probably the most spectacular shot of the game up until then, Abdulghani Muneer produced a low fast shot from at least 10 yards away from the Qatar SC box in the 47th minute. His shot was deflected with a dive to his right by the Qatar SC keeper.

In the 61st minute, Al Wakrah’s young player Yasen Abdullah was shown the red card for a reckless tackle on Hamed Ismail.

Al Wakrah escaped conceding a goal from double attempts by Qatar SC. Elmehdi Barrahma’s angular shot from outside the box struck the goalpost and keeper Saoud Al Khater did well to clear the ball after Bashar Resan hit on target a rebound from near the penalty area in the 65th minute.

The Al Wakrah goalkeeper stopped the ball after a low hit by Bashar from close range five minutes later as teams continued to seek that elusive goal.

Barrahma attempted to score a stunning goal from around 20 yards outside the box, but his rocket was well punched away by flying keeper Al Khater.

Three minutes on, Lucas Mendes took inspiration from Barrahma’s long-range shot and attempted one from a longer distance. Standing close to the half line, Mendes fired a bullet on a free-kick.

Qatar SC keeper Al Hail jumped high to parry the ball over the crossbar on what was a spectacular shot taken with absolute command by Mendes.
