Al Duhail stayed very much in the title race as they beat Al Sailiya 2-1 in Week 17 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Saturday.
Han Kwang-Song (12th minute) and Karim Boudiaf (86th minute) scored for Al Duhail, who now have 42 points and a comfortable lead on top of the standings.
Al Sailiya stood on 23 points. Mbarak Boussoufa scored their goal by converting from the penalty spot in the 90th minute..
It was The Red Knights’13th victory, the most by any team.
Al Duhail dominated the proceedings throughout and wing play as they forced seven corners as against Al Sailiya’s three.
Paulo Edmilson had a role in Al Duhail’s both goals.
Han opened the scoring by banging home the rebound after Edmilson’s angular shot hit the right upright and came back into play.
Boudiaf scored the second goal for Walid Regragui’s wards off Edmilson’s free-kick.
In between the goals, Al Duhail came close to scoring, with Edmilson, Almoez and all threatening.
Al Sailiya were awarded a penalty after Ali Afif handled Karim Ansari’s header in the last minute of regular time and Boussoufa was spot-on.
The defeat was a setback for Al Sailiya, coached by Sami Trabelsi, who were coming off back-to-back victories, against Qatar SC and Al Gharafa.
Al Duhail had beaten Al Sailiya by the same score in the first leg of 2019-20 QNB Stars League.
