The 2019-20 QNB Stars League Week 11 action witnessed exciting contests, where a total of 18 goals were scored across the six matches, hosted by Qatar SC, Al Gharafa and Al Ahli Stadiums on Sunday, 22nd December, and Monday, 23rd December.

Even though the tournament resumed after a long break during which Rounds 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the Ooredoo Cup, 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifiers, 24th Arabian Gulf Cup and FIFA Club World Cup were held, all teams got down to business straightaway.

Two games ended in draws, while the highlight encounter between reigning champions Al Sadd and Al Gharafa lived up to its billing.

The first four positions in the table remained unchanged. Al Shahania are the only side yet to open their account as the tournament crossed the halfway mark.

Leaders Al Duhail took their points tally to 29 by beating Al Ahli 3-0, with goals from Yousef Msakni, Ismail Mohammed and Almoez Ali.

Al Ahli slipped one place to eighth as they stayed on 13 points.

Al Rayyan stayed second four points behind Al Duhail after they defeated Al Wakrah, Yacine Brahimi scoring the all-important goal right at the death.

Al Wakrah (12 points) too slipped one place, to ninth.

Al Sadd had it easy over Al Gharafa, winning by a 5-1 margin. Asia’s best player Akram Afif stole the show with a hat-trick. Baghdad Bounedjah and Hassan Al Haydous were the other scorers for The Wolves, who stayed fourth with 18 points.

Al Sadd have two games in hand (against Al Arabi and Al Khor). Those matches, deferred due to their AFC Champions League commitments, have been scheduled for 6th January and 21st January.

Al Sadd had the best attack line with 26 goals.

Sofiane Hanni scored for Al Gharafa who, nevertheless, remained in the third position with 20 points.

Al Sailiya moved from sixth to fifth as they defeated Umm Salal 2-0 to be on 17 points. Mostafa Mohammed and Abdulqadir Ilyas were the scorers.

Umm Salal’s woes compounded as they now occupy the bottom position with five points.

Qatar SC and Al Arabi played out an entertaining 1-1 draw, with Kayke Rodriguez scoring for the former and Hamdi Harbaoui for the latter.

Qatar SC moved up by two positions to seventh with 13 points even though they could not make it four wins in a row in the league.

Al Arabi slipped by one spot to sixth with 15 points.

Al Shahania finally got off the rock bottom after they played out a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Al Khor.

Ahmed Hammoudan and Tiago Bezerra were on target for Al Khor, while Al Shahania’s goals came through Kesse Amangoua and Ramin Rezaeian.
