Qatar SC completed a hat-trick of victories with an upset 3-0 verdict over reigning champions Al Sadd in Week 10 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Saturday.
Sardor Rashidov (ninth minute and 90+4 minutes) and Kayke Rodriguez (31st minute) were the scorers as Qatar SC moved on to 12 points. Al Sadd remained on 15 points.
Qatar SC had defeated Umm Salal (5-0) and Al Shahania (1-0) in the previous weeks.
Al Sadd had lost 2-4 to Al Rayyan in the Qatar Clasico in Week 6 and 1-4 to Al Duhail last week. The Wolves’ title campaign is off track now with their third defeat as the QNB Stars League takes a long break after this round.
However, Al Sadd have the advantage of having played two matches less as their Week 5 match against Al Arabi and Week 7 fixture against Al Khor were deferred due to their AFC Champions League commitments.
It has to be noted that Qatar SC’s all four victories came after former Qatar international midfielder Wesam Rizik took charge of The Kings, replacing Spanish coach Carlos Alos Ferrer.
And the latest came against his former club Al Sadd.
Rashidov opened the scoring after he outsmarted Al Sadd defender Tareq Salman and goalkeeper Saad Al Dossari, with Kayke providing him with a cross which he did by outmuscling rival captain Gabi Fernandez.
The roles reversed for the second goal. This time, Rashidov turned the maker and Kayke the taker, as a result of a counter-attack.
During the half, Al Dossari managed to save a free-kick from Ahmed Moein.
At the other end, Al Sadd’s top scorer Baghdad Bounedjah twice came close, but the Algerian was off the mark on both occasions.
Al Sadd tried hard to make a breakthrough in the second session, with Bounedjah at the helm of their attacks. But nothing went their way and Rashidov rounded off the tally in the final moments with an angular long shot from the left with precision.
