After the end of 2018-19 season, all QNB Stars League clubs are looking at ways to avoid the drawbacks and rectify the mistakes ahead of the new season.

As part of coverage of the league championship that went by, the Qatar Stars League website analyses all 12 teams’ performance in the 2018-19 QNB Stars League, in the order of their final standings.

QATAR SC

Qatar SC went through much trouble in the 2018-19 QNB Stars League, where they stayed towards the bottom of the table for long, having dropped many points easily.

Despite the concerted efforts and strong support of the club management, the team continued to suffer and even faced relegation to the Second Division after finishing the league in the 11th place with 16 points, just one more than last-placed Al Kharaitiyat.

Qatar SC could register only four wins, the least number by any of the 12 teams. They drew four matches, but lost 14. They had a goal difference of -22 (20 goals for and 42 against) and could not keep the average of one goal per game after 22 rounds of matches.

However, The Kings pulled off a 1-0 win over Second Division runners-up Muaither in the Play-Off to ensure their stay in the 2019-20 QNB Stars League, with Iraqi striker Hussein Ali netting the winner.

Qatar SC had started their season well by beating Al Gharafa 3-1 in Week 1, but suffered defeats in the following four weeks at the hands of Al Ahli, Al Sailiya, Al Duhail and Al Shahania in that order.

After playing out a goalless draw with Al Khor, Qatar SC lost big-time to eventual champions Al Sadd (1-5) before registering their second victory (2-0 against Al Kharaitiyat) in Week 8. Overall, they played well in some games in the first leg despite dropping points.

Qatar SC began their campaign under Qatari coach Abdullah Mubarak. However, after the performance declined, they parted ways with him and temporarily put their Under-23 coach Yousef Al Noobi in charge.

The team then signed a contract with Argentinian coach Sergio Batista in their bid to put their campaign back on track, but he was also unsuccessful in some matches.

At the start of the season, Qatar SC hired some foreign and Qatari players in order to strengthen their ranks. Cameroonian star striker Samuel Eto’o, Hussein Ali and Brazilian Dodo joined the squad, while Syrian striker Osama Omari stayed.

During the Asian Cup 2019, Omari suffered a cruciate ligament knee injury and went out of action. Then, in the winter transfer window, Algerian midfielder Jugurtha Hamroun joined them from Al Kharaitiyat on loan.

Qatar SC had recruited Jordanian player Bahaa Abdelrahman as well as Qatari players Ahmed Moein and Rami Fayez before they embarked on their 2018-19 QNB Stars League campaign.
