After the end of 2018-19 season, all QNB Stars League clubs are looking at ways to avoid the drawbacks and rectify the mistakes ahead of the new season.

As part of coverage of the league championship that went by, the Qatar Stars League website analyses all 12 teams’ performance in the 2018-19 QNB Stars League, in the order of their final standings.

AL KHOR

Al Khor suffered a lot in the 2018-19 QNB Stars League due to inconsistent performances. The Knights even had to wait till the last to ensure their stay in the First Division as they stared at relegation on many occasions than one.

Eventually, Al Khor finished 10th with 20 points (five victories, as many draws and 12 defeats). Their goal difference was -14 (22 goals for and 36 against).

Al Khor did not have a good start to the season, losing 0-1 to Al Arabi and 0-6 to Al Duhail in the first two weeks, despite making changes on the coach and player fronts.

They had strengthened their ranks ahead of the season by recruiting foreign and Qatari professional players.

Tunisian coach Adel Sellimi took over from his countryman Nassif Al Bayawi.

However, following a series of negative results, they decided to end the contract with Sellimi and made Omar Najhi the caretaker coach. They opted for Frenchman Bernard Casoni and he also lost his job following their 2-6 loss to eventual champions Al Sadd in Week 16 and Omar was again put in charge of the side.

The team’s professional players at the start of the season were Iraqis Rebin Solaka as well as Ahmed Yassin, Gabonese Ulysse Ndong and Brazilian Diogo Farias. But Ndong was soon replaced with Brazilian Wagner Ferreira.

As far as Qatari players were concerned, Al Khor recruited goalkeeper Mohammed Al Bakri and Khalid Radwan among others.

The changes continued during the January transfer window, with Brazilians Willans Dos Santos as well as Tiago Bezerra, Lebanese Robert Alexander Melki and Tunisian Ayman Trabelsi joining them.

Al Khor’s impressive wins were against Al Rayyan (1-0 in Week 8), Al Kharaitiyat (5-1 in Week 9), Qatar SC (3-1 in Week 17) and Al Kharaitiyat (4-0 in Week 20).
