Al Shahania and Al Wakrah played out a goalless draw in Round 3 (Group A) of the 2019-20 Ooredoo Cup at the Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday.
Al Shahania thus opened their account, while Al Wakrah moved to five points.
Al Shahania had earlier lost against Al Rayyan (0-3) and Al Sadd (1-3).
Al Wakrah had beaten Al Sadd 5-1 in the first round, but were held to a goalless draw by Umm Salal in the second round.
Al Wakrah had more of the ball.
A goal evaded both teams more because of the alertness of goalkeepers Ebrahim Daryoush (Al Shahania) and Hassan Idriss (Al Wakrah).
Al Wakrah’s Mohamed Benyetou and Al Shahania’s Nigel de Jong tested the goalkeepers in the first half.
Al Wakrah’s Jassim Al Jalabi came close after resumption, but could not find the target in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Faisal Abdullah too made an attempt, but in vain.
On Al Shahania’s part, Kesse Amangoua and Abdulla Hamad came up with feeble attempts as the deadlock remained.
