Qatar SC fought back from two goals down to beat Al Sadd 3-2 in Round 2 (Group A) of the 2020-21 season Ooredoo Cup at the Qatar SC Stadium on Tuesday.
Substitute Kayke Rodriguez (52nd and 58th minutes) and Abdulaziz Adel (64th minute) scored for Qatar SC.
Rami Sohail (26th minute) and Saoud Al Nasr (28th minute) were Al Sadd’s scorers.
Al Sadd were playing their first match in the tournament as their fixture against Al Duhail in Round 1 was postponed owing to both teams’ campaigns in the 2020 AFC Champions League.
Al Sadd dominated possession in the first half and were rightly rewarded with two goals in as many minutes.
Qatar SC, who had played out a 1-1 draw with Al Wakrah in Round 1, were a determined lot in the second session. Coached by ex-Qatar international midfielder Younis Ali, The Kings reaped its benefits.
They took the field in the second half with two substitutions - Kayke Rodriguez and Muataz Majed coming in for Ali Awad and Omar Al Emadi respectively.
The move paid off as Kayke made an instant impact by reducing the margin for his team by scoring two goals in six minutes.
Qatar SC’s confidence was high now and Kayke linked up with tall Abdulaziz Adel and the latter sent a shot over the bar.
Abdulaziz was on target as he headed in a free-kick.
Qatar SC thought they had made it 4-2 before Elmehdi Barrahma’s header, off a corner kick, flew over towards the end of the game.
