The Ooredoo Cup Round 1 action witnessed exciting games and results besides telling goals. A total of 21 goals (11 in Group A and 10 in Group B) were scored. Matches were played at the Al Arabi and Al Ahli Stadiums.

Group A matches were played on Friday, 11th October, and Group B games on Saturday, 12th October.

Group A

In Group A, Al Wakrah recorded a 5-1 victory over Al Sadd, who were heavily depleted because many of their players were away on national duty and some of them were on the injury list.

Abdulrahman Mosed (two goals), Omar Ali, Riadh Nasser and Ismail Mahmoud scored for Al Wakrah, while Rami Suhail scored Al Sadd’s goal.

Al Wakrah are leading the Group A table on goal difference.

In the second match, Al Ahli defeated Umm Salal 2-0, with Abel Mathias and captain Nabil El Zhar finding the target.

Al Ahli were without Abdullah Al Ahrak and Abdulrahman Mohammed who were doing duty for the Qatar national team, whereas Umm Salal missed the services of injured Ivorian striker Yannick Sagbo.

Al Rayyan blanked Al Shahania 3-0 in other action to be second in the group table. Ahmed Al Saadi, Abdulrahman Al Harazi and Rodrigo Tabata were the scorers.

Al Rayyan are followed by Al Ahli, Umm Salal, Al Shahania and Al Sadd in that order.

Group B

In Group B opener, Al Khor and Al Arabi played out a 1-1 draw. Tiago Bezerra put Al Khor ahead, only for Al Arabi to equalise through Pierre Lasogga.

Qatar SC scored an impressive 4-0 victory over Al Sailiya to record the only victory in the group in the tournament’s first round.

Kayke Rodrigues led the scoring with a brace. Musa Haroon and Elmehdi Barrahma were the other scorers as Qatar SC seem to be making steady strides under Wesam Rizik, who recently replaced Spanish coach Carlos Alos Ferrer.

The last match, between Al Duhail and Al Gharafa ended in a 2-2 draw.

Mohammed Muntari netted Al Duhail’s both goals, while Al Gharafa’s goals came from Mohammed Ramadan and Abdulghani Muneer.

Al Gharafa are second in the group, followed by Al Duhail, Al Arabi, Al Khor and Al Sailiya in that order.
