Al Shahania face Al Rayyan challenge in a 2019-20 season Ooredoo Cup Round 1, Group A match at the Al Arabi Stadium on Friday.

Group A also has Al Sadd, Al Wakrah, Al Ahli and Umm Salal.

Al Shahania would look to compensate for their lapses in the QNB Stars League, where they are at the rock bottom of the standings with just one point. Jose Murcia’s men have yet to register a victory.

It is against this backdrop that they go into the Al Rayyan game.

Diego Aguirre-coached Al Rayyan, on the other hand, are high in confidence after beating Al Sadd in the Qatar Clasico last week. They are fourth in the QNB Stars League table with 12 points.

Both teams are expected to give chances to younger players in the absence of some seniors, who are doing international duty during the FIFA break.
