Al Wakrah will host Al Shamal at the Al Janoub Stadium in Week 11 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League on Sunday, December 8, 2024. The kick-off is at 5.30pm.
Both teams would be eager for a win to gain the valuable three points, which should also provide for a very exciting and competitive match.
In the last round, Al Shamal beat Al Rayyan 2-1 on their home turf and would now aim to prevail over The Blue Wave.
Al Wakrah had suffered a 1-3 loss in Week 10 against Al Gharafa and have recently lost to Tajikistan’s FC Ravshan 0-2 in their own backyard in the group stage of AFC Champions League Two. Al Wakrah, however, qualified for the next round of the tournament.
Coach Ali Rahma Al Marri took advantage of the match against Ravshan as the team had already secured qualification for the next round of continental championship to try out young players and to help them prepare for the clash against Al Shamal.
The coach is counting on his strong attacking line represented by Ricardo Gomez, Ayoub Assal and Jacinto Dala, and the strong midfield led by Aissa Laidouni, Hamdy Fathy and Omar Salah to achieve victory.
Al Wakrah are currently in fifth place in the standings with 14 points and are looking to close in on Al Gharafa, who are in fourth spot with 18 points.
Al Shamal are sixth in the rankings with 13 points, a point behind Al Wakrah, and a win could see them advance to the fifth place and enhance their chances of making it to the top four.
Al Shamal have been presenting impressive levels this season and would be counting on a number of their stars, most notably the brilliant Baghdad Bounedjah, the league’s top scorer, Mohammed Omar, Younes Belhanda and Omid Ebrahimi among others.
