Al Wakrah coach Marquez Lopez spoke to the media ahead of their 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League Week 7 match against Qatar SC.
“We had only three days between the postponed match against Al Duhail and the Qatar SC clash for recovery and there was no time for normal training.
“We were satisfied with some light training during this short period to explain how to play the match and the line-up that we will play in, because time did not allow for intense doses on the technical and physical fronts.
“The general atmosphere in training was good. Of course, after the great victory we achieved at the expense of Al Duhail, we all know the difficulty of the next match against Qatar SC because they are an organized team with competent players in all departments. The new technical staff strive to achieve victories, so we need to show the highest degree of concentration throughout the game.
“Our technical staff focused on addressing the possibility of players becoming over-confident that winning one or two matches does not mean anything in the long league journey and that success depends on continuing positive results,” said Marquez.
Al Wakrah player Gelson Dala said, “Our goal will go to the stadium for the next match against Qatar SC with only one goal, which is to get all three points. We are going through a good period and it must be taken advantage of by gaining more points and continuing to improve the team’s position in the table.
“I am happy for my two goals against Al Duhail and for the great effort that the team made, the strength with which we showed up, the spirit and how we played the match. We knew it would be a very difficult match, but the whole team was convinced of our chances.”
