The 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League’s Week 15 action witnessed pulsating action and as many as 19 goals were scored across six matches, played on Monday and Tuesday, 17th and 18th January, 2022.

Two of the five games ended in draws. Table toppers and reigning champions Al Sadd posted the biggest margin of victory when they beat Al Shamal 5-1.

RESULTS

Al Arabi lost to Qatar SC        1-2

Al Sailiya drew Al Duhail        1-1

Al Ahli lost to Al Wakrah       1-3

Al Shamal lost to Al Sadd       1-5

Umm Salal bt Al Gharafa       3-1

Al Khor drew Al Rayyan        0-0

As far as positions are concerned, Al Sadd lead the standings with 34 points, Al Duhail second with 33 points, Al Wakrah third with 25 points, Al Gharafa fourth, Al Arabi fifth (both have 23 points, but Al Gharafa are placed ahead on better goal difference) and Umm Salal sixth with 22 points. Al Rayyan, Qatar SC and Al Ahli all have 16 points, but they are placed seventh, eighth and ninth on goal difference. Al Shamal are 10th place with 13 points, Al Khor 11th with 10 points and Al Sailiya 12th with six points.

Al Wakrah benefited much from this round as they advanced from fifth to third place with 25 points following their 3-1 win over Al Ahli.

Khaled Munir, Mohamed Benyettou and Jacinto Dala scored the goals for Al Wakrah, while Jose Angel Pozo scored Al Ahli’s goal.

Al Wakrah have a postponed match against Al Sadd from Week 11 and it will be played on 31st January.

Al Gharafa slipped from third to fourth spot and Al Arabi fell from fourth to fifth place after losing to Umm Salal (1-3) and Qatar SC (1-2) respectively.

Umm Salal’s goals were scored by Abdulrahman Al Rashidi, Adel Alawi and Ayman Hussein. Cheikh Diabate was Al Gharafa’s scorer.

Sebastian Soria and Anthony Okpotu scored for Qatar SC. Substitute Valentin Adama pulled one back for Al Arabi deep into stoppage time.

Thus Qatar SC and Umm Salal were back to winning path.

Al Sadd regained the top spot following their 5-1 win over Al Shamal.

Akram Afif, substitute Rodrigo Tabata, Ali Asad, Hassan Al Haydous and Mustafa Tareq scored for Al Sadd, while Al Shamal’s goal was scored by Moaz Al Salemi.

Al Sadd have three matches in hand (against Al Wakrah, Qatar SC and Al Rayyan).

Al Khor and Al Rayyan played out an entertaining goalless draw in other action.

Al Duhail’s Kenyan striker Michael Olunga continued to be the top scorer with 17 goals. He scored their goal in their 1-1 draw against Al Sailiya, for whom Majdi Siddiq netted the equaliser. Al Sadd’s Baghdad Bounedjah is second with 11 goals, followed by his team-mate Andre Ayew and Umm Salal’s Ayman Hussein (both nine goals) and Al Wakrah’s Jacinto Dala (eight goals).

The 2021-2022 QNB Stars League’s Week 16 matches will be played on 22nd and 23rd January with three games on each day.
