The Board of Directors of Al Wakrah Club, headed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Hassan Al Thani, officially announced its contract with Spaniard Miguel Angel Ramirez, former Sporting de Gijon coach, with a contract for one season, subject to extension.

Miguel will take over the task in the next season of the Ooredoo Stars League 2024-2025, replacing Ali Rahma Al Marri, who took over the team temporarily at the end of last season, and succeeded in leading it to win the Qatar Cup title for the first time in their history defeating Al Sadd in the final on penalties.

The new coach signed the contract at the club’s headquarters in the presence of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Khalifa bin Hassan Al Thani, Vice President of the club, after agreeing on all the financial details and the duration of the contract.
Coach Miguel Angel's last experience was with the Spanish club Sporting de Gijon in the Spanish second division. He also previously coached American clubs Charlotte, Ecuadorian Independiente del Val, and Brazilian club Internacional.
Miguel Angel was close to being promoted with Gijon to the Spanish League, "La Liga", after finishing in fifth place with them in the second division, but he lost the qualification ticket in the playoff matches, by losing to Espanyol Barcelona, which ensured his return to the top flight.

Al Wakrah finished the last season in fourth place in the league standings, which means it will participate in the AFC Champions League (2) in the 2024-2025 season.
The club also announced the signing of right-back Abdul Rahman Rashid, coming from Muaither Club, for whom he played on loan from Al Sadd.

Rashid is Al Wakrah's second player signing, after signing Cape Verdean striker Ricardo Gomez from Al Shamal Club.
