They were joined by Ghana’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Emmanuel Enos, Ambassador of the Republic of France HE Franck Gellet and Ambassador of Nepal HE Prof Ramesh Prasad Koirala.

In her remarks after the final match, Fatma Al Nuaimi, Communications Director at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), said, “This year’s final was yet again an exciting footballing showpiece. Congratulations to Nakheel for a great victory. I’d also like to commend all 28 teams that took part and thank the thousands of supporters who came to the final – it just goes to show how the Workers’ Cup is growing in stature after every year. Football has the power to promote many things, and this tournament is just one example of how we want to use the 2022 World Cup to encourage social inclusion and sports participation across Qatar.”

The SC has collaborated with the Qatar Stars League (QSL) to sponsor the Workers’ Cup for a seventh year as part of its ongoing commitment to use football as a tool to accelerate social and human development.

Mr. Hassan Rabiah Al Kuwari, Executive Director of Marketing, Sales and Communications at the QSL, highlighted the fact that the Workers’ Cup is gaining more strength after every edition.

“The increasing popularity of Workers’ Cup, ever since its start in 2013, proves it has become a major event that engages an important section of the society. It’s a matter of pride for the QSL to organise a tournament which uses the power of football to support positive social changes in Qatar,” said Al Kuwari.

“The thrilling final between Nakheel Landscapes and Taleb Group provided the icing on the cake as the curtain came down on the seventh Workers’ Cup. We’re having a proactive as well as productive journey with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy as we support the delivery of 2022 FIFA World Cup™ and its associated legacy projects,” he added.

This year’s tournament saw over 600 players from 28 teams compete. Eleven of these teams were current or former contractors on 2022 FIFA World Cup™ projects and seven were engaged with the SC’s flagship CSR programme Generation Amazing.
