The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani crowned Al Duhail as the new Amir Cup champions after they beat A Sadd 4-1 on Thursday at the newly-opened Al Wakrah Stadium.

HH the Amir handed over the trophy and gold medals to the members of Al Duhail team and silver medals to Al Sadd club members.

HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, Personal Representative of the Amir HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa Al Thani and a number of Their Excellencies, Sheikhs, Ministers and dignitaries, who included FIFA chief Gianni Infantino, attended the ceremony.

Al Duhail’s goals were scored by Paulo Edmilson (58th and 81st minutes), Ali Afif (16th) and substitute Yousef El Arabi (62nd).

Akram Afif had put Al Sadd ahead in the seventh minute.

The match witnessed four red cards. Al Duhail’s Almoez Ali, Al Sadd’s Tarek Salman, Hamed Ismail and Baghdad Bounedjah were shown red cards by referee Abdulrahman Al Jassim.

Akram took Al Sadd ahead, but Ali drew parity for Al Duhail.

Al Sadd, who dominated the proceedings slightly in terms of ball possession, faded in the second half and Al Duhail had the last laugh.

Al Duhail thus defended the title. So, there are four different winners for the domestic titles in Qatar in the 2018-19 season. Al Rayyan had won the season-opening Sheikh Jassim Cup, Al Gharafa lifted the QSL Cup and Al Sadd reigned supreme in the QNB Stars League.
