The QNB Stars League Week 8 fixtures witnessed some exciting contests as well as thrilling action, and featured 14 goals across six matches, played on 24th, 25th and 26th October, with two games on each day.

The Al Arabi vs Al Rayyan highlight fixture lived up to its billing, with more than 10,000 passionate fans attending the match at the Al Arabi Stadium. The intensity of the game was also high.

Al Rayyan won the game 2-1. Yacine Brahimi and Gabriel Mercado scored for Al Rayyan, while Hamdi Harbaoui found the target for Al Arabi.

Al Rayyan kept the second spot with 18 points, while Al Arabi slipped from fourth to fifth with 13 points. However, The Dream Team have one game in hand, against Al Sadd deferred from Week 5.

The Lions thus extended their unbeaten run, with Al Duhail being the only other undefeated side in the 12-team tournament.

Al Duhail defeated Al Gharafa 2-1 in another high-profile game. The Red Knights moved on to 20 points, with Al Gharafa slipping from third to fourth with 14 points.

Al Gharafa surged ahead through Sofiane Hanni, but Al Duhail replied through Mohammed Muntari and Paulo Edmilson.

Al Sadd moved from fifth to third with 15 points following their 2-1 win over Al Ahli, who slipped from sixth to seventh as they stayed on 10 points.

Baghdad Bounedjah scored Al Sadd’s both goals, including a penalty.

Abel Mathias was Al Ahli’s scorer.

Al Sadd have two matches in hand, against Al Arabi and Al Khor, deferred due to their AFC Champions League commitments.

Qatar SC made it big by defeating Umm Salal by a 5-0 margin. In the process, The Kings climbed from 11th to ninth position in the standings with six points.

El Mehdi Barrahma, Sardor Rashidov, Abdelnaser El Khayati and Adel Abdulaziz scored for Qatar SC, who were also helped by an own goal by Umm Salal’s Ismail Dahqani.

That resulted in Umm Salal, who fell from ninth to 11th spot with five points, replacing Spanish coach Raul Caneda with Tunisian Ahmed El Abyad.

In other fixtures, Al Shahania held Al Sailiya and Al Khor played out a draw with Al Wakrah, both goalless.

Al Shahania remained at the bottom of the table with three points, whereas Al Sailiya moved from seventh to sixth position with 11 points.

Al Khor and Al Wakrah stood 10th and eighth with five and eight points respectively.
