Qatar’s Al Sadd face Iranian side Persepolis in the sixth and final round of 2019 AFC Champions League Group D on Monday. The kick-off is at 19:30 Doha time at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.

Al Sadd had reached the Round of 16 following their 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli in the fifth round.

Al Sadd are leading the group with 10 points, while Persepolis are last with four points.

Uzbekistan’s Pakhtakor are second with eight points and Al Ahli third with six.

Al Sadd had started off this year’s competition on a losing note as they were at the receiving end of a 0-2 verdict against Al Ahli. The Wolves beat Persepolis 1-0 in the second round.

Holding Pakhtakor 2-2 and then beating them 2-1 back-to-back was a creditable achievement for Al Sadd, who won the 2018-19 QNB Stars League. However, they lost to Al Duhail 1-4 in the Amir Cup final last Thursday.

The Al Sadd squad left for the Iranian capital on Saturday. It includes players such as Saad Al Dossari, Meshaal Barsham, Jehad Mohammad, Boualem Khoukhi, Xavi Hernandez, Yasser Abubaker, Hussein Behzad, Hassan Al Haydous, Salem Al Hajri, Akram Afif, Hassan Ahmed, Hatem Kamal, Abdelkarim Hassan, Pedro Miguel, Tariq Salman, Baghdad Bounedjah, Hamed Ismail and Jung Woo-Young.

However, they will miss suspended Spaniard Gabi Fernandez, who picked up a second yellow card during the game against Al Ahli.

Persepolis’ 2019 campaign will surely end in the group stage, but they confirmed their spot in the 2020 AFC Champions League following their third consecutive Iran Pro League title, which they clinched last week.
