Al Gharafa will miss the services of Ilyas Ahmed in the coming months after medical tests confirmed that he suffered a cruciate ligament injury while playing for the Qatar Olympic team in a friendly against Jordan.

The defender is to undergo a rehabilitation programme following surgery and will be out of action for some time.

Ilyas was a part of the Al Gharafa side in the first and second weeks of 2019-20 QNB Stars League, contributing to their 3-0 win over Al Shahania and goalless draw against Al Rayyan. And The Cheetahs are presently second in standings, ahead of Al Arabi, Al Duhail and Al Khor on goal difference even though all four teams have the same number of points (four).

Al Gharafa are to play Qatar SC in Week 3 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Sadd Stadium on 14th September.
