The thriller fought between Al Arabi and Al Gharafa highlighted the Week 7 action of 2019-20 QNB Stars League. As many as 15 goals were scored across five matches.
The match between Al Khor and reigning champions Al Sadd was deferred due to the latter’s AFC Champions League second-leg semifinal against Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal on 22nd October in Riyadh.
Al Duhail retained their top position by beating Umm Salal 1-0, Mohammed Muntari netting the all-important goal. The Red Knights moved on to 17 points.
Al Rayyan climbed from fourth to second position with a 5-0 win over Qatar SC. The Lions have 15 points. Mohammed Alaaeldin, Rodrigo Tabata (double), Franck Kom and Yacine Brahimi were their scorers.
Qatar SC stayed 11th in the table with three points.
Al Sailiya recorded a 3-1 victory over promoted side Al Wakrah to climb from eighth to seventh spot with 10 points. Karim Ansari (double) and Meshaal Al Shammari were The Peregrines’ scorers as Sami Trabelsi’s wards notched up their third victory.
Omar Ali scored Al Wakrah’s goal through a penalty as The Blue Wave stayed on seven points.
High-flying Al Arabi crashed to their first defeat this season as they went down fighting 0-1 to Al Gharafa for whom Sofiane Hanni scored the winning goal.
The match truly lived up to expectations, with fans of both teams cheering them on from the stands.
Al Arabi slipped from second to fourth position with 13 points, while Al Gharafa jumped from fifth to third place with 14 points.
However, Al Arabi have the advantage of having played one match less as their fixture against Al Sadd in Week 5 was deferred owing to the latter’s AFC Champions League semifinal first leg against Al Hilal.
Al Sadd are fifth in the standings as they have only 12 points, having played two games less.
In the other fixture, Al Shahania did well to hold Al Ahli to a 2-2 draw. Hernan Perez and Nabil El Zhar (penalty) scored for Al Ahli, while Ramin Rezaein scored Al Shahania’s both goals, including a penalty.
