Al Duhail coach Djamel Belmadi is just not ready to rest on his laurels and is eager to win the Emir’s Cup and AFC Champions League as well.

Speaking to QSL Online after his team completed a double by adding the Qatar Cup to their QNB Stars League triumph, the Algerian said they wanted to continue their winning run.

Al Duhail defeated Al Sadd 2-1 in an electrifying final at the Al Sadd Stadium on Friday. The Red Knights had clinched the QNB Stars League title with an unbeaten record.

“I’m happy to win these two tournaments — the QNB Stars League and the Qatar Cup — with Al Duhail. But the season isn’t over yet. We’ve the Emir’s Cup and Champions League remaining,” said Belmadi, as he basked himself in celebrations in the company of his players.

“We’ve been working hard, preparing in earnest and doing our best. I’m happy to be coaching this set of players. The most important factor is result. I’m here to win trophies.

“The club is improving and the players are performing well. We’ve had a wonderful season, but we can definitely win more titles.

Belmadi expressed happiness over his players’ reaction after they were in deficit through a 19th-minute goal by Qatar international Hassan Al Haydous.

Ismail Mohammed helped Al Duhail equalise in the 78th minute and Moroccan ace Youssef El Arabi converted a penalty in stoppage time to trigger celebrations.

However, Belmadi was not happy with the way some Al Sadd players reacted to the referee’s decision, taken after referring to Video Assistant Referee system.

“Some players overreacted and it was unfair. It was there for everyone to see,” he added.
