Al Duhail defeated Al Sailiya 3-0 in the Emir Cup second semifinal at the Al Sadd Stadium on Sunday to set up a title clash with Al Sadd.

The final will be played at the new Al Wakrah Stadium on 16th May. It is one of the eight venues of 2022 FIFA World Cup and will be inaugurated the same day.

Al Sadd had beaten Al Rayyan 2-0 in the first semifinal on Saturday.

For Al Duhail, striker Mohamed Muntari scored in the seventh and 64th minutes. Paolo Edmilson (27th) was the other scorer.

Al Duhail, who finished runners-up in the QNB Stars League behind Al Sadd, did not have to sweat much against Al Sailiya, who came third in the league ahead of Al Rayyan.

Al Duhail, the reigning Emir Cup champions, straightaway meant business and tested the Al Sailiya defence twice in the first five minutes. The Red Knights did not have to wait for long to open their account, with Muntari volleying home past goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater after the ball deflected off the defensive wall following a free-kick by Bassam Al Rawi.

Al Sailiya tried hard to recover from the early shock, but to no avail as they failed to create clear chances, although Abdulqadir Ilyas proved a threat to the Al Duhail defence.

Al Duhail doubled their lead when Almoez Ali worked his way up front on the left flank and crossed for Muntari, who let the ball pass deftly under his feet to fox the defence. Edmilson then unleashed a left-footer that beat the goalkeeper.

Al Duhail dominated the second half too and were 3-0 up when Muntari found himself in a perfect position to strike again from close off a cross from Ali Afif.
