Al Rayyan coach Diego Aguirre and his Al Ahli counterpart Nebojsa Jovovic will surely hog some limelight when they face off in the 2019-20 QNB Stars League on Thursday, 27th February.
Uruguayan Diego Aguirre was back as Al Rayyan coach this season, having managed them for two seasons starting in 2011. He helped The Lions to Amir Cup triumph in 2013.
Aguirre has also coached Al Gharafa for one season.
He is a well-known coach in South America and has guided several clubs.
During his playing career, Aguirre represented a number of clubs, including River Plate, Fiorentina, Ourense, Olympiacos, Internacional and Sao Paulo.
Under Aguirre, Al Rayyan have been doing well in the league. The Lions are currently second in the table with 32 points (nine wins, five draws and one defeat).
On the other hand, Nebojsa is a well-known figure in the Gulf region in particular and Arab world in general. He achieved successes with the clubs he trained, most notably Jordan’s Al Faisali, Tunisia’s Sfaxien and Egypt’s Zamalek.
The Montenegrin was the assistant coach at Kuwait’s Kazma club (2012-13) and has coached Saudi Arabia’s Hajer club (2014-15) as well as Iraq’s Al Shorta (2018-19) as well.
Born in Titograd, Nebojsa played for about 10 years in Buducnost Podgorica, Turkey’s Kayserispor, erstwhile Yugoslavia’s Smederevo and Belarus’ Slavia. He has experience as a player in the Swedish, Chinese and Polish Leagues also.
Nebojsa replaced Spaniard Ruben de la Barrera as Al Ahli coach ahead of Week 11 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League in December, 2019.
The Brigadiers are on 18 points (five wins, three draws and seven defeats).
