After two weeks of action in the 2019-20 QNB Stars League, which has taken a break due to international commitments, as many as 15 QNB Stars League players joined their national teams for official or friendly matches.

These players are key to their countries’ fortunes, so they were called up by the technical staff.

They all will return ahead of the QNB Stars League’s Week 3 fixtures, to be played on 13th, 14th and 15th September. The Al Sailiya vs Al Sadd match has been postponed to 24th September in view of the latter’s AFC Champions League return-leg quarterfinal against Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr in Doha on 16th September.

Algerian national team coach Djamel Belmadi, who has coached Al Duhail in Qatar, called up three QNB Stars League players for their friendlies against Benin and Ivory Coast as part of preparations for the qualifiers of 2022 FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations. They are Baghdad Bounedjah of Al Sadd, Yacine Brahimi of Al Rayyan and Adlene Guedioura of Al Gharafa.

Al Duhail’s Yousef Msakni and Al Sailiya’s Bilal Saidani joined the Tunisian squad for their friendlies against Mauritania and Ivory Coast, also as part of  preparations for the qualifiers of 2022 FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.

The Iranian trio of Morteza Mohammed of Al Arabi, Karim Ansari of Al Sailiya and Ramin Rezaeian of Al Shahania left for their fixture against Hong Kong in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifier.

South Koreans Jung Woo-Young of Al Sadd and Lee Jaeik of Al Rayyan were to do duty in their friendly against Georgia and also in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifier against Turkmenistan.

Al Duhail’s Iraqi player Muhannad Ali also received a call-up for their tie against Bahrain in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifier.

Umm Salal’s Syrian recruit Mahmoud Al Mawas joined his country’s preparations ahead of their 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifier against the Philippines.

Lebanon called up Al Khor’s Robert Alexander Malki for their World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifier against North Korea.

Aron Gunnarsson of Al Arabi left for Iceland’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Moldova and Albania.

Al Gharafa’s Hector Moreno also joined the Mexican national team for international commitment.
