Spartan Ready Mix will take on Doha Pest Control and Medgulf face Al Asmakh F.M. in the opening quarterfinal fixtures of the sixth edition of Workers’ Cup on Friday, 2nd March.

It is Gulf Contracting vs ALYSJ and G4S Qatar vs Nakheel in the second set of last 8 knockout matches.

The first two matches will kick off simultaneously at 08:00, while the last set of games start at 09:30. The Al Duhail Stadium is the only venue from the quarterfinal stage onwards. The Al Sadd Stadium had also hosted matches till the Round of 16 (Play-Offs), held on 23rd February.

A total of 32 goals, including penalties, were scored in the first knockout stage of the annual football tournament, organised by the Qatar Stars League and sponsored by Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy. It started at the Al Duhail Stadium on Friday, 2nd February.

The group-stage games saw 301 goals (78 in Week 1, 108 in Week 2, 115 in Week 3) being scored in all.

Three of the eight Play-Offs, played on Friday, 23rd February, were decided on penalties after yet another action-packed day.

Spartan Ready Mix defeated Shapoorji Pallonji 3-1 in tie-breaker after the teams were locked 1-1 at full time.

The second game too went into the tie-breaker after Doha Pest Control and Trags Engineering played out a 1-1 draw, and the former progressed with a 4-2 verdict on penalties.

Medgulf prevailed over AG Middle East 1-0, while Al Asmakh F.M. registered the biggest victory margin when they beat NAAAS 4-0.

In other fixtures, Gulf Contracting got the better of Taleb Group 2-1, ALYSJ beat L&T Qatar 2-1, G4S Qatar blanked AALCO 2-0 and holders Nakheel edged Mowasalat 4-1 via tie-breaker after regulation time ended goalless.

Matches are played on Fridays. The semifinals are scheduled for 9th March, third-place play-off for 16th March and final for 23rd March. Entry is free for the public.

The tournament’s main objective is to promote a culture of sport and healthy lifestyle in the community of migrant workers engaged in various projects across the State of Qatar, especially those related to the infrastructure of 2022 FIFA World Cup.
