Match 45: Mowasalat 1 vs Delta Doha 0
Mowasalat progressed to the Semi-finals of the Workers Cup with a tight 1-0 victory over Delta Doha on Friday morning.
This frantic affair sprung into life in the ninth minute when substitute striker Mensah’s long distance effort stunned the Delta keeper.
Mowasalat continued to pose problems but were kept mostly at arm’s length by Delta as they struggled to rediscover the form that propelled them to the quarter finals.
In the second half, Delta pushed hard for a vital equalizer. But where found wanting in the final third. The final minutes of the tie where full of drama, as Mowasalat held out against the increasingly dangerous Delta attacks. Mowasalat now head to the semis with a hard fought 1-0 win with an eye on the championship.
Match 46: Dulsco 0 vs Gulf Contracting Co. (GCC) 1
Gulf Contracting became the 2nd team to reach the semifinals of the Workers Cup 2016 for the 2nd year in a row after a hard fought 1-0 win against newcomers Dulsco who surprised everyone last week beating Outlook Trading. The game was a tight affair with no quarter given as both sides battled for early supremacy.
With the score still 1-0 at the break, the second half was a cagey affair with both sides knowing a semifinal place was up for grabs. But Dulsco simply ran out of ideas to convert the attacks on the GCC goal. Dulsco even changed their tactics, switching to a 4–3–3 looking to hit the GCC after the break. The defense held firm under some aerial bombardment, with some tasty tackles going in from both sides.
Great credit must be given to both teams in a typical quarterfinal game in which both sides gave their all. GCC now face Mowasalat In the semi-final next week.
Match 47: Midmac 0 vs Taleb Group 1
Taleb group progressed to the semi-finals of the Workers Cup 2016 with a tight 1-0 win over former champions Midmac. The first half was a quiet affair, with Taleb Group growing in confidence in the final ten minutes of the tie.
The second half started in dramatic fashion when Edmund Attah of Midmac was sent off in the 45th minute. Taleb took advantage just three minutes into the second half, as they scored the only goal of the tie.
Despite being a man behind, the defending champions pushed hard for an equalizer. However they were repelled time and time again by a resolute Taleb backline. Talab now move on to the Semifinals where they will face off against Larson & Toubro.
Match 48: Larson & Toubro (L&T) 1 vs MedGulf Construction Co. 0
Larson & Toubro maintained their unbeaten record in the 2016 Workers Cup with a tight 1-0 victory over MedGulf.
The feisty quarter final saw plenty of tough tackles with the referee issuing 5 yellow cards in the tie.
Larson & Tourbro set out strongly and grabbed the only goal of the game in the first half with a fine individual effort. Larson & Toubro held on to go in one up at the break. The second half turned on a rash challenge by Larson & Toubro defender Eramos who was given his marching orders after a rash challenge in the 59th minute.
Despite being a man down, Larson & Toubro who are in their first ever Workers Cup competition held on for a memorable win. Larson & Toubro will now take on Taleb Group in the semifinals of the Workers Cup 2016.
