Round 18 of the QSL saw five players stand out by scoring important goals for their respective sides. Here in our weekly feature we profile the stars who were the difference makers as their side’s grabbed three points in the league.

Al Ahli’s veteran midfielder Younis Ali scored his side only goal in the Brigadeers 1-0 win over Al Khor on Friday evening. The 34 year old midfielder struck a fine strike mid-way through the first half to ensure that Al Ahli are now undefeated in three QSL games.

Ali put in a solid performance in midfield as Yusef Adams side held on for the win. The no nonsence midfielder will now be looking to continue his goal scoring form when Ahli take on his former side Al Rayyan in what promises to be the standout fixture for round 19.

Qatari midfielder Helal Mohammed has been one of the standout players for Umm Salal, in what has been a difficult season for the Orange Fortress. The pacey winger was on hand to score his sides opening goal as they managed a credible draw against El Jaish on Friday night.

Mohammed made a surging late run into the box to smash in a cross from Yannick Sagbo, and was a constant threat down the flank for Mahmoud Jaber’s side. The Orange Fortress will now be hoping to get back to winning ways for the first time in four games when they take on relegation threatened Al Kharaitiyat next time out.

It’s been a week to remember for Al Sadd’s captain Xavi. Fresh from signing a one year contract extension a day after his 37th birthday, the Wolves midfielder put in a performance of real class as Al Sadd brushed aside Al Gharafa 3-0.

The midfielder grabbed his side opener early in the second half with a composed strike inside the box and also provided a telling pass to substitute Hamza Sanhaji for the second goal of the game. The former Spanish international was integral to the Wolves win, and the will be looking for a similar showing when Al Sadd take on relegation threatened Al Shahania next time out.

Ivorian attacker N'Guessan Yessoh grabbed a brace for his new club Muaither to ensure that they moved off the bottom of the QSL standings with a vital 3-1 win over Al Wakrah. The Al Ahli loanee now has three goals in two starts for the Stallions, and his signing could prove to be vital if Muaither make the great escape and avoid the drop.

Points are all important for Phillipe Birol’s side now with nine rounds left to play, and they will go again against an Al Arabi side who has struggled as of late in round 19.

A telling second half strike from Al Rayyan youngster Abdulmajeed Enad proved to be enough for Michael Laudrup’s side as they edged out Al Kharaitiyat 1-0 to register their fifth straight win the league. The Qatar U23 international has blossomed in recent weeks, and his second ever goal for the side was a sight to behold as he smashed the ball into the back of the net from outside the box. Enad will now be targeting a starting place when Al Rayyan take on Al Ahli next time out.
