Al Gharafa introduced defender Rubert Quijada on Sunday evening, after the Venezuelan defender formally signed with the Cheetahs.

The 28 year old defender was also joined by club officials at the ceremony, and has been handed the number six shirt for the season. Quijada will be used as a replacement for Ghanian defender Rashid Sumaila who played for Al Gharafa last season on loan from Qadsia SC in Kuwait.

Speaking on his move to the QSL Quijada insisted he is looking to replicate his form with his former side Caracas FC with Al Gharafa. “I enjoyed five successful years in Caracas, winning trophies and playing for the national team, I hope that I will be able to do the same at Al Gharafa.”

The signing of Quijada caps of a busy week for the Cheetahs who also introduced experienced Chilean midfielder Luis Jiménez and Portuguese midfielder Diogo Amado to the media earlier in the week.

In other news, Al Gharafa have formally begun preseason training under new coach Jean Fernandez. The squad met on Sunday evening, at Gharafa’s training complex to undergo their first training session ahead of the new QSL season.
