El Jaish finish second thanks to Lucas Equalizer
Al Sadd took on El Jaish in the final round of the QSL on Friday at the Qatar SC Stadium. The Soldiers ended the season in second place after a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Abderrazak Hamdallah opened the scoring for El Jaish in the thirteenth minute. The Moroccan striker received a cross at the edge of the box and then bulldozed his way through the Al Sadd defense before putting his shot away from inside the six-yard box. The goal takes Hamdallah’s tally to twenty one goals this season making him the top scorer in the QSL.
Al Sadd then made a quick comeback in the second half scoring two goals in quick succession. The equalizing goal came from captain, Xavi Hernandez in the fifty sixth minute. Abdelkarim Hassan sent in a cross which Xavi slotted into the goal from a narrow angle as he slid into the six-yard box.
Just moments after the first goal Baghdad Bounedjah gave Al Sadd the lead in the fifty seventh minute. The Algerian striker received the ball outside the box dribbled it in, cut past a defender before sending the ball into the goal from in between two defenders. The powerful right footed swerving shot gave Khalifa Ababacar, El Jaish’s goal keeper, no chance.
In the seventy eighth minute El Jaish equalized through Lucas Mendes. The Brazilian defender was left unmarked during a corner kick and the ball fell to him just inside the box and he smashed it into the goal on a half volley.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw which means El Jaish end the season in second place. Sabri Lamouchi’s men have forty-eight points while Jesualdo Ferreira’s men end the season in third with forty-seven points.
