Al Sailiya withstand pressure to beat Al Arabi

Al Arabi 1-2 Al Sailiya

Al Sailiya rounded off their season in style with a 2-1 victory over ten-man Al Arabi.

The result moved the Peregrines on to 36 points and helped them leapfrog the Dream Team in the final standings.

Sailiya took the lead in the eighth minute at Grand Hamad Stadium through Abdurahman Al Harazi. The Qatari striker prodded home a clever cross from Carlos Preciado after the Colombian had latched on to a good through-ball.

Sailiya didn’t lead for long though. Yusef Ahmed capitalised on slack defending just eight minutes later to equalise with a fine finish from ten yards.

An action-packed opening was completed in the 25th minute when Majdi Siddiq put Sailiya back in front. Arabi goalkeeper Rajab Hamza could only parry his side-footed effort from 25 yards and the ball ballooned over the line with Preciado on hand to make sure it hit the back of the net.

Gianfranco Zola’s men pressed for long periods of the second half but failed to find an equaliser – thanks in part to solid goalkeeping from Gregory Gomis. The Frenchman produced a string of good saves, including one from Alan Sousa’s well-struck free-kick.

Late on, Sailiya had a golden opportunity to make the game safe. Faouzi Aaish was brought down in the area by Abdullah Marafee but saw his spot kick hit the post and go wide. The incident also saw Marafee get his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card.

Mubele brace enough to give Ahli win over champions.

Al Ahli 3 Al Rayyan 2

Champions Al Rayyan took on in form Al Ahli in the final match of the QSL season at the Al Arabi Stadium on Saturday. In an end to end match the Brigadiers won the match by three goals to two and ended Al Rayyan’s championship season with a loss.

Towards the end of the first half the match took a strange turn as both sides were awarded penalties in quick succession. The first penalty came in the favor of Al Rayyan when Al Yazidi brought down Sergio Garcia inside the box. In the fortieth minute the Lions took the lead courtesy of a converted spot kick from Rodrigo Tabata. The goal makes Tabata the joint top scorer alongside El Jaish’s Abderazak Hamdallah.

The second penalty came just moments later when Meshal Abdullah, the captain of Al Ahli, stepped up for the penalty and got the goal in the forty second minute.  Al Yazidi won the penalty for his side when he was brought down on the edge of the box by Rayyan midfielder Ulises Pascua.

Ndombe Mubele gave Al Ahli the lead in the fifty fifth minute after he slid the ball past the keeper. Mubele received the ball in the box on the run from Mojtaba Jabari and the Congolese attacker got his first goal of the night with a brilliant finish into the far post.

Sergio Garcia leveled the score line in the sixty first minute. The Spanish attacker received the ball after a shot from Tabata bounced of a defender and landed to him. Garcia then slid the ball into the far post past the goalkeeper.

Al Yazidi sent a beautiful ball over the top to Mubele who got his second goal of the night after curling the ball past the keeper in the seventy third minute. The goal restored Al Ahli’s lead and they went on to win the match against the champions.
