Al Sailiya beat Qatar SC 2-0 in a lively encounter which saw the introduction of Samuel Eto’o to the QNB Stars League.
Rachid Tiberkanine scored the goals in the 16th and 36th minutes at the Al Sadd Stadium on Friday.
Qatar SC’s star signing Eto’o was heavily involved throughout. However, Al Sailiya were not feeling very generous and got the early breakthrough that their play had deserved.
As is so often the case, Tiberkanine was on hand to make the difference. His first came as he reacted to Abdulqadir Ilyas’ dummy and struck with great venom from outside the penalty area.
Qatar SC were inches away from an equaliser when Osama Omari launched himself at a cross from a tight angle, but his clever headed shot did not quite creep inside the post.
Not long after, Al Sailiya were able to double their advantage as Abdulqadir was brought down in the box by Magdi Siddiq following some tricky footwork. Once again, Tiberkanine took responsibility and confidently struck his penalty straight down the middle.
Qatar SC really grew into the game and were unlucky on several occasions to see no reward for their efforts. Captain Eto’o had a great chance in front of the goal that he missed before later being unfortunate to have a goal ruled out.
As the game drew to a close, Qatar SC were unable to find a breakthrough, but they will be buoyed by the performance as they move onto the next match.
