Al Ahli coach Yousef Ahmed spoke to the media ahead of their QNB Stars League Week 22 match against Al Rayyan.
“We have had eight training sessions during the three-week break since I took over from George Jorge after the Week 21 game. I did not have to start from scratch. The players did not have any psychological problems. I just had to work with them. It was a continuation process.
“Our goal for this match is a positive result. The players’ morale is high. I am not thinking of coaching this team for just this match. There are possibilities for me to train this squad in many matches. However, it is up to the team management to decide.
“Personally, I am against changing coaches quite often. A team must have an identity. Teams that do not have identity and stability cannot achieve good results.
“A victory against Al Rayyan will improve our position and that will augur well for my players in the forthcoming Emir’s Cup, where we seek to fare well. Al Rayyan are a big team. I am sure (Michael) Laudrup will utilise this opportunity to give chances to some youngsters considering their AFC Champions League campaign and that they are assured of the third place in the league,” said Yousef.
