Substitute Salem Khalifa produced a stunning second-half strike to power Al Khor to a 1-0 win over Al Sadd in Week 21 of the QNB Stars League on Saturday.
After both sides ended the first half without a goal, Al Khor managed a late strike when Salem, after beating two rival defenders with his amazing speed, unleashed a powerful shot that beat the goalkeeper and smashed into the net at high speed.
It was a memorable outing for Salem, who had replaced Mowafak Awad in the 58th minute of the match. The goal was scored with a shot from outside the Al Sadd box that was heavily guarded.
It was Al Khor’s sixth victory this season. For Al Sadd, second behind new champions Al Duhail, it was their fifth loss this season. It was also The Wolves’ third successive loss in the QNB Stars League that has just one round remaining.
Al Sadd's Pedro Miguel picked up a red card in the 90th minute of the match played at the Al Sadd Stadium.
Al Sadd’s Qatar international Abdulkarim Hassan also picked up a yellow card following intense push for an equaliser in the last few minutes of the match.
On the other hand, Al Khor’s Hamad Mansoor, Awad and Helal Mohammed got the booking.
Al Sadd missed regular skipper Xavi Hernandez due to an injury, but had the services of Hassan Al Haydous, Ali Asad, Akram Afif and Musab Kedar.
