Al Khor earned a dramatic late victory over Al Sailiya to win an active encounter 2-1 in Week 19 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Friday.
Temurkhuja Abdukholiqov got the game’s opener for The Peregrines in the 60th minute, while Al Khor’s goals came from Madson and Helal Mohamed in the 63rd and 84th minute respectively.
The game had started positively, with Wagner Ribeiro trying his luck with a 25-yard drive, only to see it drift wide.
Al Khor then replied with a glorious chance in which they could have taken the lead, but Soroush Hossein’s perfect free-kick was headed over by Ariel Ngueukam. Moments later, Al Sailiya spurned an opportunity as Mostafa headed straight at the goalkeeper when on goal.
The deadlock was broken in the second half after Abdulkareem Al Ali was fouled in the area by Abdelaziz Mitwali. Abdukholiqov stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Within 90 seconds, Al Khor were back on level terms through a penalty as Madson, with his stuttering run-up, was able to deceive the goalkeeper and plant the ball to the goalkeeper’s right.
As the game drew to a close, Dragos Grigore mistimed his backpass which substitute Helal intercepted before intelligently lifting the ball over the head of the stranded goalkeeper.
To make matters worse, Al Sailiya had to finish the game with 10 men after Al Ali was given his second yellow card and sent to the stands.
The victory will be of great relief to Al Khor as they now seek to distance themselves from the relegation zone. They have 18 points.
