The QNB Stars League’s Week 16 witnessed many goals being scored (22 as against the previous round’s 19) and not a single drawn game. And there were many star performers. QSL Online highlights one from each game.
Anwar Diba (Al Kharaitiyat)
Moroccan star Anwar Deba contributed greatly to Al Kharaitiyat’s 3-2 win over Al Markhiya. He scored the winning goal deep into stoppage time besides taking the corner kick from which Sanjar Tursunov scored their first goal. Overall, he had a great game.
Youssef Msakni (Al Duhail)
Tunisian attacking midfielder Youssef Msakni once again led from the front by scoring two goals as Al Duhail defeated Al Gharafa 5-1. In the process, Msakni took his personal tally to 16 goals to be the second highest scorer behind Youssef El Arabi (21).
Xavi Hernandez (Al Sadd)
Spanish World Cup winner Xavi Hernandez led Al Sadd to an important 2-0 win over Al Rayyan in the Qatar Clasico. Attacking attacking midfielder Jugurtha Hamroun scored their first goal after trapping a defence-splitting pass from Xavi. Baghdad Bounedjah was the other scorer.
Osama Omari (Qatar SC)
Syrian striker Osama Omari scored both goals as Qatar SC registered a crucial 2-0 victory over strong challengers Al Sailiya. The win helped The Kings leapfrog from 10th to eight position in the standings with 15 points.
Maher Yousef (Umm Salal)
Maher Yousef scored an outstanding goal for Umm Salal towards the end as they fought back from a goal down to beat Al Khor. Umm Salal, playing with 10 men, thus collected three precious points to catch up with Al Sailiya on points.
Fahad Shnein (Al Ahli)
Left-back Fahd Shnein played an instrumental role in Al Ahli’s 4-0 win against Al Arabi even though he did not score a goal. The wily player’s movements were dangerous as he supported their attackers as well as defenders to a great extent.
