Dutchman Pelle van Amersfoort had provided Al Shahania with the lead (24th minute) as he deflected in a gentle pass from Moameen Mutasem Ragab from the right, inside the box. Al Duhail equalized early in the second half (52nd minute) with Karim Boudiaf heading in a fine free-kick taken by Benjamin Bourigeaud from about 20 yards outside the box to the right.

Earlier, in the 37th minute of the match, an Ibrahima Bamba goal for Al Duhail was ruled out for offside by VAR. Bamba had made a successful kick after the goalkeeper fived to keep the ball out following a free kick and a header.
