Al Shahania will lock horns with Al Rayyan in Week 15 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium of Qatar SC on Saturday, February 8, 2025. The kick-off is at 6.45pm.
Both teams have been in good stead of late. Al Rayyan in particular would have an added spring to their step following their recent 2-1 win over Al Ain of the UAE in Round 7 of AFC Champions League Elite and would also be looking to revive their hopes of qualifying for Round of 16 (West Zone) on the continental stage.
In the Ooredoo Stars League, however, Al Rayyan had draws in their previous two rounds – 2-2 against Al Gharafa and goalless draw against Al Duhail.
Currently, Al Rayyan are sixth in the standings with a tally of 18 points, and one point behind Al Shamal (fifth). Under the guidance of Portuguese coach Artur Jorge, The Lions would surely be looking to climb up and break into the top four.
Despite the departure of Moroccan striker Achraf Bencharki, Al Rayyan strengthened their ranks during the winter transfers with Paraguayan striker Adam Bareiro. The team also has some top pros including Roger Guedes, Mahmoud Trezeguet, Murad Naji and Hazem Shehata, among others.
Al Shahania have had good results in the last two rounds, scoring successive wins over Al Khor (2-1) and Al Wakrah (1-0) to occupy seventh place with 17 points, equal with that of Al Wakrah, but superior on goal difference.
Al Shahania thus compensated for their loss in the 12th round to Al Arabi (1-3). They rely mainly on Alhassan Koroma, Marc Muniesa, Andreas van Beek and Pelle van Amersfoort.
