Al Wakrah coach Poya Asbaghi and his Al Wahda counterpart Darko Milanic spoke to the media ahead of their Challenge Cup match in the Qatar-UAE Super Cup to be played at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, January 19, 2025, marking the conclusion of the tournament’s second edition.
Asbaghi said, “We are facing a developed team that has players with great potential who are also great at an individual level. We have to put all our capabilities into the match and not leave anything to circumstances. I believe that our team is capable of achieving the desired goal.
“The team is well prepared for the match, and we have analyzed the opponents more than once, considering that it is ultimately a football match that we must play with due importance. We represent Qatar football in this match and therefore it must be exceptional and a great motivation for the players to win it.”
Al Wakrah player Hamdi Fathi said, “We are ready to take on this challenge against a big team and we will be able to achieve our goals. Perhaps the circumstances have not helped us much during the recent period, but there is new technical staff with new ambitions and we hope to reach what we want and honour Qatar football.”
Al Wahda coach Milanic said, “We have studied our opponents well and I have asked my players to focus and play in an organized manner in order to achieve the desired goal. We are required to play for 90 minutes at full capacity and we have studied the opponents well during the past period.”
Al Wahda player Lucas Pimenta said, “The team will play a difficult match against a big competitor looking to win a title outside its home stadium. We have to implement the coach’s instructions well in order to achieve the desired goal. It is natural that there is pressure in football. We appreciate that and we promise the fans that we will do our best to win the cup.”
