Al Wakrah will start their 2024-2025 season AFC Champions League Two campaign in Group A by facing off with Iran’s Tractor FC at the Al Janoub Stadium on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The kick-off is at 7pm Doha time.
Al Wakrah, who were placed fourth in the final standings of 2023-2024 season league championship, are in Group A. India’s Mohun Bagan SG and Tajikistan’s FC Ravshan are the other teams in the group.
Al Wakrah are back in the Asian competition for the first time since the Asian Club Championship in 2001 and 2002, according to the AFC website. The Blue Wave had played the play-off match to qualify for the group stage of 2023-2024 season AFC Champions League against Uzbek side FC Navbahor at the Al Janoub Stadium and had lost.
Al Wakrah are preparing strongly for this important match under the watchful eyes of Spanish coach Miguel Angel, who will be keen to put up his best available line-up of players in their bid to bag full points.
Al Wakrah’s technical staff will seek to benefit from their last match in the Ooredoo Stars League against Al Duhail (Week 4) even though they had lost by a 0-2 margin in the strong test.
Tractor, ranked fourth in the 2023-2024 Iranian league, had reached the Round of 16 of AFC Champions League in 2016 and 2021. This is their first appearance in the second tier of continental championship.
