Qatar SC scored a thumping 4-0 win over Al Markhiya in Week 7 of the 2023-2024 season Expo Stars League at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium of Qatar Sports Club on Sunday.

The winners led 3-0 at half-time while the fourth came in added time of the second session from an own goal of Al Markhiya.

The goals came through Yousef Mohammed (eighth minute), Bruno Tabata (45+6 minute), Javi Martinez (45+10 minute) and Naby Sarr (90+4 minute own goal).

Qatar SC gained momentum and command over the game right from the word go as Raoul Sanda cut off a pass from the rivals to move ahead and send a long ball inside the ‘D’.  Al Markhiya goalkeeper Loukay Sherif rushed out from the goal and met with a collision with a defender while going for the ball as Yousef Mohammed rushed in to score on the chance.

Lead gained, Qatar SC pressed for more and in the 16th minute a Badr Benoun header following a set piece action missed the top left corner of the goal.

Al Markhiya too tried hard and soon Driss Fettouhi made a left-footed shot from outside the box, but it was blocked.

Minutes later, Diogo Rochinha of Al Markhiya tried to go for the jugular, after a Joao Teixeira free-kick action, but his kick went too high.

Later in the added time of first half, Teixeira made a through ball, but Abdelaziz Mitwali was found offside.

Qatar SC then dashed Al Markhiya’s hopes with a second goal following a corner kick. Bashar Rasan took the kick and Javi Martinez made a header, but the ball hit the crossbar and stayed in play and Ibrahim Majed lunged to connect. However, Tabata dashed in from near the right post to complete the goal.

There was still more to come before the half-time whistle as Martinez slammed in the third one from the centre of the penalty area after goal-mouth action off a corner kick.

In the second half, Al Markhiya made some attempts to score, but they were consistently spoiled by the rival defence and Qatar SC goalkeeper Motasem Bustami.

Al Markhiya suffered another setback towards the end when Sebastian Soria of Qatar SC got the ball off a header following a corner kick and tried to send a cross to the right, but Naby Sarr, while trying to cut it off, deflected the ball into the left corner of his own goal.

Qatar SC’s second win took their tally to eight points, while Al Markhiya remained on three points.
