Al Wakrah coach Poya Asbaghi spoke to the media ahead of their 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League Week 14 match against Al Shahania.
“We spent a good week of training after the last match and I think that we as a team know that we will do well, so we feel very confident before this match.
“Al Shahania are a team that was promoted to the league, but it has proved that it is a team that defends very well. They are a team that works hard and they are not one of the teams that give many chances to competitors as may happen with promoted teams, and with the change of coach there may be some surprises in their way of playing.
“We are far behind the top four and our position in there will depend largely on what the teams ahead of us in the standings will do, so I do not want to speculate on things that are not under our control.
“Our goal is always to improve and to work on developing and improving our playing style, and the more we improve, the more points we will get in the league, and when we play the last match of the season, we will see how far we have come,” said Asbaghi.
Al Wakrah’s Danish defender Alexander Scholz said, “We are all very focused and have a great desire to improve, and I think that the coach’s ideas have also begun to appear in the matches, as we appear more cohesive. I feel that there is a state of enthusiasm spreading among us as players, which gives us confidence in our ability to perform well.
“We have the ability to continue winning and the last match was a big step for us after a period without a win, and I feel that it released a lot of energy within the team and we must exploit this energy in this match.”
